From the point of view of a student of English, this website provides a collection of readings of different lengths on a variety of topics. Students are free to choose which material to read and work on from the main page where it is possible to organize the readings according to several criteria.
From the point of view of the ELT practitioner, this website provides a collection of readings, each coupled with detailed lexical coverage analyses. All readings provide access to their corresponding analyses via a link in the top-right corner of the reading's page.
ELT pratitioners can select which reading to give to their students by inspecting the lexical content provided in the analyses. These analyses include a lexical breakdown, a BNC profile, a GSL profile, an AWL profile, and a number of metrics (types, tokens, sentences, paragraphs, dispersion, diversity). A Glossary of Terms is available.
It is possible to link directly (from Moodle, emails, etc) to a reading as these don't change.
Unless otherwise explicitly specified in the reading, all readings are in the public domain. Therefore, any use of these public-domain readings is allowed, including modification, printing/photocopying, etc.
The analyses are the property of Lexical Metrics. Therefore, modification, duplication, etc, are not allowed. Read the Terms of Use for the specific legalese. In plain English, you are allowed to use the analyses for personal and academic purposes but never with commercial intent.
